G'day, I'm David Schubert Managing Director of East Edge Fishing. With over 20 years of experience in the seafood industry, I'm passionate about sharing factual information about Queensland's fishing industry and promoting sustainable practices.
My journey began at the Australian Maritime College, where I graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Fisheries and Fishing Gear Technology. Since then, I've worked extensively with the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) as a Scientific Observer, accumulating over 1500 days at sea across all Commonwealth fisheries.
My expertise spans:
- Fishing gear and bycatch technology
- Fisheries management and compliance
- Threatened species conservation
- Seafood monitoring and security
- Ecosystem stewardship
Additional project work with OceanWatch Australia has deepened my understanding of the critical role we play in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. At East Edge Fishing, we provide accurate information, promote industry best practices, and foster a deeper appreciation for Queensland's seafood industry.

I’m Travis and Fishing isn’t just my Job, it’s my Legacy.
I live in Bowen, North Queensland, with My Beautiful Family. I started fishing alongside my Grandad as a young kid and the ocean has been in my veins ever since.
Over the years, I’ve built a diverse fishing business backed by a range of commercial licences, giving me the flexibility to adapt and grow in a changing industry. One of the Core parts of that Business is Rynn’s Seafoods which my wife and I started 5 years ago located just south of Bowen on the Bruce Highway.
Today, we employ 25 dedicated staff across our Boats, Retail Store, Processing Facility and Seafood Trucks. Everyday, we work hard to Deliver High- Quality Local Seafood to our Community and Beyond for those who are unable to catch it themselves.
Fishing has its ups and downs and constant challenges but the reward is worth it. I want to pass my knowledge onto my children just like my Grandfather did and that’s why sustainability is at the Heart of Everything we do. I’m committed to protecting fish stocks and supporting a healthy, thriving marine environment - because without that, there’s no future for any of us in the seafood industry.
It’s time we start sharing the real stories and the facts about Queensland's Seafood Sector - From the people who live and breathe it everyday.

I’m Nathan Rynn a second-generation professional fisher based in North Queensland. I was lucky enough to grow up in the fishing port of Bowen where our grandfather was a well-known and respected commercial fisher for 50 years.
My earliest fishing memories are being carried through the mangroves by our father checking crab pots in local estuaries. I was still in nappies in the photos! Then obviously moving on to become a deckhand for grandad in the offshore net fishery, line fishery, inshore net fisheries and beam trawl prawn fishery. All epic memories!
Based in Townsville I have boats which I operate in all fisheries from offshore net/line, inshore net and bait fisheries, as well as the crab fishery.
People think professional fishing is a lifestyle. But I can tell you it is not! We are at the mercy of the wind, tides, moon, seasons and environmental change but you get out of it what you put in and that’s what I like about farming the ocean!
It's impossible to describe the draw the ocean has to some of us, it’s ingrained in our DNA and impossible to shake despite the adversities we face. Professional fishing has provided a lot for my young family and I hope it will continue to do so for the rest of my career.

Hi, I'm Ben, I'm a 2nd generation professional fisher, based out of the Sunshine Coast region of Queensland. I've grown up with my dad who has always taught me to respect the waters we fish, but also to appreciate that professional fishing is a business and no longer a lifestyle. So, I completed a Bachelor of Business in between 20 years of professional fishing.
I'm multi-endorsed, meaning I use multiple methods to harvest various species, but I predominantly net offshore for Small Mackerels and Shark. When whale migration comes, I head inshore to fish where I catch estuary species to supply the local fish shops in the Sunshine coast region.
I have two boats which both serve their purpose, one offshore aluminum, which we use for catching Sharks and Mackerels. Then the beautiful inshore fiberglass net boat, used for catching mixed estuary, food grade Mullet and Garfish, and various bait species for the recreational anglers.
I'm a 2nd generation fisher who's proud of what I do and the way I conduct myself while harvesting seafood. We need to share the positive stories of our modern-day fishing industry. For too long the industry has been painted with negativity and false information. It's time we tell our story, the real story.
